The Taliban lashed eight people at the site of a military court in Herat province, where the order was issued, according to a statement from the Taliban’s Supreme Court released Thursday.

The individuals were accused of “beating and harassment.” Each was lashed 20 times and sentenced to five months in prison, the court said.

The statement did not disclose the identities of the eight people.

The military courts of the Taliban typically handle cases involving Taliban members accused of various types of criminal activities.
