Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the Iranian special envoy for Afghanistan, has claimed that approximately six million Afghan refugees are currently residing in Iran.

In an interview with Iranian media, Qomi attributed the refugee crisis in Afghanistan to the United States.

Qomi criticized the portrayal of Afghan refugees as a crisis source, stating, “The enemy is seeking to reflect that Afghanistan’s refugees are causing a crisis; they ignore our security and want to damage our national security.”

This statement comes as the Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation reports that dozens of families are being deported or voluntarily returning from neighboring countries, including Iran and Pakistan. Notably, Pakistan has recently enacted policies requiring nearly 2 million Afghan refugees to leave its territory.
