The Taliban-run Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has awarded the contract for the Jagdalak ruby mine to a private company, “Ariana Highland”.
According to the ministry’s statement, the company won the bid by agreeing to give a 44 percent share of the mine’s proceeds to the Taliban.
The company is set to invest $27.5 million in the mineral deposit, which spans approximately 6.90k square meters.
Additionally, the firm has committed to spending $5 million on social services, as per the Taliban’s statement.
Since their return to power, the Taliban has contracted many domestic and international companies to operate the country’s mines.
