Taliban foreign minister critiques outcome of Doha meeting on Afghanistan

Taliban foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in a meeting with Roza Otunbayeva, the head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said that the UN-hosted Doha meeting on Afghanistan “failed to yield any tangible result.”

He expressed hope for more productive outcomes in future meetings concerning Afghanistan.

Emphasizing the importance of the Taliban’s involvement, Muttaqi urged that they be timely consulted on all issues to enhance the effectiveness of these meetings.

As of now, UNAMA has not provided any comments regarding Otunbayeva’s meeting with Muttaqi.

The Doha meeting was held on Feb. 18 and 19 in which the participants agreed on future meetings and the start of a major political process for Afghanistan.
