Landslide in Afghanistan’s Nuristan province kills five, leaves dozens missing

NURISTAN, Afghanistan – A devastating landslide in Nuristan province’s Tateen valley, eastern Afghanistan, has resulted in at least five deaths, with more than two dozen people still missing, according to a local Taliban official.

Samiulhaq Bayan, the Taliban’s director of information and culture in Nuristan, reported that the landslide early Monday caused significant damage, affecting at least 25 residences in the Noorgram district.

Bayan confirmed the recovery of five bodies from the debris, with an ongoing search for 25 individuals, including women and children, who remain trapped in the rubble.

The official attributed the landslide to recent heavy rains and snowfall in the region.
