Iranian envoy urges EU to maintain humanitarian aid to Afghanistan unaffected by regional relations

Iran’s special envoy to Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, emphasized in a recent meeting with the European Union’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Tomas Niklasson, the importance of not allowing regional relations to influence the EU’s humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.

Qomi highlighted that the EU’s commitment to helping the Afghan people should remain independent of regional diplomatic ties. His remarks come just before a scheduled meeting of special envoys on Afghanistan in Doha, set for Feb. 18-19.

United Nations agencies report that over half the population in Afghanistan currently requires humanitarian aid.
