Mahmoud Daqiq, Afghanistan’s first attorney general of Republic era, passed away

Abdul Mahmoud Daqiq, the first Attorney General of Afghanistan’s republic government, died on Thursday in Tajikistan following an illness.

Daqiq served as Attorney General in the early 2000s under former President Hamid Karzai.

His death has prompted condolences from various political figures, including Abdullah Abdullah, former head of the High Council of National Reconciliation, and Farid Hamidi, the last Attorney General of the Republic era.

Ahmad Massoud, leader of the Resistance Front, noted that Daqiq was a close friend of Ahmad Shah Massoud, a former commander and national hero of Afghanistan recognized by the previous government.
