UNITED NATIONS — UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric, during a press conference on Thursday, highlighted the significance of Afghan women’s participation in the upcoming Doha meeting on Afghanistan, which will include a session between special envoys and Afghan civil society groups.

“It is very important that the voices of Afghan women be heard in these discussions,” Dujarric stated.

He added that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is scheduled to arrive in Doha on Sunday to attend the meeting. Dujarric reiterated the meeting’s goal to discuss enhancing international engagement with Afghanistan in a more coherent, coordinated, and structured manner, including the implementation of recommendations from an independent assessment on Afghanistan.

The Taliban have previously stated that their attendance at the Doha meeting will be conditional.
