UNITED NATIONS — UN Secretary-General will host a meeting of special envoys focused on Afghanistan on Feb. 18-19 in Doha, announced spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.
“The Secretary-General aims to follow up on the member state and regional organization discussions regarding Afghanistan. The meeting’s goal is to enhance international involvement coherently and structurally, including reviewing the recommendations of the independent assessment on Afghanistan,” Dujarric stated.
He noted that while details are still being finalized, the meeting is a continuation of the dialogue initiated in Doha last May and follows a UN Security Council resolution that paved the way for the appointment of a special envoy for the UN in Afghanistan.
