Pakistan PM to cut short Davos visit amid escalating tensions with Iran

Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar will cut short his visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Thursday, amid escalating tensions with Iran.

Pakistan conducted strikes inside Iran on Thursday, targeting separatist Baloch militants.

This action came two days after Tehran claimed it had attacked bases of another group within Pakistani territory.

Iranian media reported that several missiles struck a village in the Sistan-Baluchistan province, which borders Pakistan. The attack reportedly killed three women and four children, all non-Iranians.

The strikes into Iranian territory followed Iran’s announcement on Tuesday that it had targeted Israel-linked militant bases inside Pakistan. Pakistan stated that civilians, including two children, were killed in Tuesday’s attack and warned of consequences for which Tehran would be held responsible.
