Pakistan deports over 600 Afghan nationals amid immigration crackdown

ISLAMABAD — In its ongoing campaign against undocumented immigrants, the Pakistani government deported 616 Afghan nationals on Jan. 16, local media reported.

Since November 2023, Pakistan has deported a total of 469,545 Afghan nationals, according to these reports.

The latest group of deportees included 179 men, 124 women, and 313 children, all returning to Afghanistan.

This ongoing deportation of Afghan migrants has raised concerns about the uncertain fate of those repatriated, especially during Afghanistan’s harsh winter.
