Blinken meets Palestinian President Abbas after Israel talks

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Wednesday.

This meeting followed his discussions with Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on Tuesday, where they addressed Israel’s conflict with Hamas, regional tensions, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict’s future.

During a news conference on Tuesday evening, Blinken stated that his discussions with Abbas would focus on the Palestinian Authority’s need for reform and governance improvements.

This reflects the U.S. position that Abbas, 88, should undertake significant changes within the organization, particularly in preparation for governing post-conflict Gaza.
