Pakistan sees 9.1% increase in exports to Afghanistan over five months

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan have risen by 9.1% in the first five months of the current fiscal year (2023-24) compared to the same period last year, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Data from the SBP shows exports to Afghanistan totaled $232.697 million from July to November 2023-24, up from $213.282 million during the same period in 2022-23. On a year-to-year basis, exports in November 2023 surged 39.30% to $51.911 million, compared to $37.263 million in November 2022.

However, the exports experienced a slight month-on-month decrease of 0.50% in November 2023, down from $52.177 million in October 2023.

In broader terms, Pakistan’s overall exports to various countries increased by 4.99% in the first five months, rising from $11.915 billion to $12.510 billion. Conversely, imports from Afghanistan during the same period fell sharply by 72.34%, from $11.523 million in the previous year to $3.187 million in July-November 2023-24.

Year-on-year, imports from Afghanistan in November 2023 decreased by 6.11% to $1.289 million, compared to $1.373 million in November 2022. However, there was a significant month-on-month increase of 52.72% in imports from Afghanistan in November 2023, up from $0.844 million in October 2023.

Overall, Pakistan’s imports into the country decreased by 16.02%, from $25.341 billion to $21.281 billion.
