Pakistan deports over 900 Afghan migrants in past 24 hours

Pakistan deported 917 Afghan migrants on Monday, Jan. 1, marking a reduction from the previous day’s numbers in its ongoing effort to repatriate undocumented immigrants.

Pakistani media reported that the deportees included 301 men, 214 women, and 402 children. The migrants re-entered the country through the Spin Boldak and Torkham border crossings.

More than 1,900 migrants were deported to Afghanistan on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023.

As of Monday, the total number of undocumented Afghans who have left Pakistan reached 456,562, with the process ongoing.

During the repatriation operation, 84 families in 46 vehicles traveled to Afghanistan.

Pakistan has been actively repatriating illegal Afghan residents since the expiration of their stay deadline on Oct. 31, 2023.
