European Union allocates €3 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

The European Union has allocated 3 million euros (US$ 3.2 million) in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

OCHA stated that this contribution will facilitate the provision of essential assistance and protection to millions of people across the country who are in dire need of humanitarian support.

More than two-thirds of the country’s population—approximately 29 million people—are in need of humanitarian assistance, according to latest reports by U.N. and other relevant organizations. Moreover, recurrent climatic shocks—including drought, earthquakes, and floods—continue to result in humanitarian need and increase the vulnerability of at-risk populations throughout the country.
