At least 19 people including four Afghanistan nationals have been killed in a traffic accident in Iraq.
The accident happened when two passenger vehicles carrying passengers from Iran and Afghanistan, collided on the road from Kadhimayn City to Samarra in Baghdad.
The head of the Iranian Red Crescent’s Operations Control Center in Iraq confirmed that the accident took place at 11:30 pm on Friday. Eleven people also sustained injuries.
Among the 19 fatalities, 12 were Iranian citizens, four were from Afghanistan, and three were Iraqi nationals.
The injured, including seven Iranians and four Afghans, were transported to a hospital in Balad, Iraq.
The tragedy transpired during a Shiite pilgrimage that draws millions of people from around the world who take part in Arbaeen ceremonies.
