Sources confirm arrest of Nangarhar journalist by Taliban

Sources in Nangarhar said that Irfanullah Baidar, a reporter for Radio Safa based in Jalalabad city, has been arrested by the Taliban. These sources revealed that Baidar was apprehended near the Eidgah Mosque in Jalalabad approximately five days ago.

As of now, the Taliban has neither confirmed nor denied the arrest of Baidar, leaving his status and well-being in question.

Afghanistan Journalists Center issued a statement on Tuesday expressing deep concern over the incident.

The center highlighted that Baidar has been an integral part of Safa Radio, working across various departments for the past decade. This development adds to the already troubling landscape for press freedom in Afghanistan, the organization said.

The center further revealed that at least three other journalists have been held in Taliban custody for several months, raising serious alarm about the safety and well-being of media professionals operating in the country.
