A young woman with a background in journalism has been detained by Taliban intelligence in the western city of Herat, local sources said on Thursday.
The woman, identified as Habiba Salehi, was arrested on Wednesday, May 13, in the “Posta Number One” area of Herat City, the sources said.
According to the sources, Ms. Salehi had returned from Turkey last week to visit her family in Afghanistan.
The reason for her detention remains unclear.
Sources said she was taken to an unknown location, and her family has not received information about her condition or whereabouts.
Taliban have not publicly commented on the case.
The reported detention comes amid continuing restrictions and pressure on journalists, activists and women under Taliban rule.
Rights groups and media organizations have repeatedly raised concerns over arbitrary detentions and the lack of transparency surrounding arrests carried out by Taliban intelligence agencies.
