The UN assistance mission in Afghanistan in a statement said dozens of people were killed and wounded after a Pakistani airstrike impacted a drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul on Monday night.

UNAMA said the strike occurred around 9 pm on March 16 and “impacted” the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital, a facility for treating drug addiction.

UNAMA said dozens of people were “reportedly killed and injured” but did not specify whether the hospital itself was directly targeted.

Taliban say the facility was directly hit in the strike, leaving more than 400 people dead.

Pakistan, however, has denied targeting a medical facility, saying it struck military sites nearby.

UNAMA expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded.

It stressed that under international law, all parties must protect civilians, including medical personnel and facilities, and that attacks on hospitals are strictly prohibited.

The mission said civilians continue to bear the brunt of the ongoing conflict between Pakistan and Taliban.

According to UNAMA, since Feb. 26, at least 76 civilians have been killed and 213 wounded across Afghanistan prior to the latest incident.

UNAMA called for de-escalation, an immediate ceasefire and for all sides to comply with their obligations under international law to protect civilians.
