Taliban publicly flogged eight people in Bamiyan and Balkh provinces on Thursday, according to a statement from the Taliban Supreme Court.
The court said five men and one woman were each given 39 lashes in Balkh province after being convicted of charges including selling alcohol and adultery.
In a separate case, two people were flogged with 35 lashes Thursday in Bamiyan province after being found guilty of theft, the statement said.
Public corporal punishment has continued in Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Taliban courts have carried out hundreds of such punishments in recent years.
The United Nations said in a new report that 316 people — including 30 women, one girl and four boys — were flogged across Afghanistan over a three-month period on various charges.
