A Pakistani police officer was killed in an attack claimed to be carried out by militants from Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, local security officials said.
According to Pakistani media reports, the attack targeted a police checkpoint in the Wara Mamond area of Bajaur district.
Security officials said the assault led to an ongoing exchange of fire between police forces and suspected TTP militants.
They added that security forces had launched a retaliatory operation and that the situation in the area remained tense.
The TTP has not yet commented on the incident.
