Norway has contributed NOK 10 million ($990,000) to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said on Tuesday.

The funding will help humanitarian partners respond more quickly and effectively to sudden-onset emergencies across the country, OCHA said in a statement.

The contribution comes as humanitarian agencies continue to face funding shortfalls amid growing needs driven by food insecurity, climate shocks and displacement.

Norway is among several donors supporting emergency relief efforts in Afghanistan, where millions of people remain dependent on humanitarian assistance.

Afghanistan remains one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises, with the United Nations estimating that more than half of the population needs some form of assistance this year. Aid agencies say funding shortages have forced them to scale back food, health and protection programmes, even as economic hardship, climate shocks and displacement continue to drive urgent needs across the country.
