The death toll from a fire that broke out at a shopping center in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi has risen to 14, local media reported on Monday, citing officials.
The fire erupted late on Saturday at a commercial building on M.A. Jinnah Road in the Sindh provincial capital and was brought under control after more than 24 hours, officials said.
Pakistani media reported that flames were still visible in parts of the debris on Sunday, prompting firefighters to resume operations after flare-ups. Search efforts were under way amid fears the toll could rise further, as the site has yet to be fully cleared.
Authorities said the cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
Earlier reports had put the death toll at six, but officials warned that more victims could be found as rescue and recovery operations continue.
