Iran and Pakistan deported more than 6,000 Afghan migrants in the past 24 hours, according to figures released by the Taliban-run commission for refugee affairs.

The data showed that 4,591 Afghans were deported from Pakistan and 1,691 from Iran in one day.

Most deportations from Pakistan took place through the Torkham border crossing, with others returning via Spin Boldak and Bahramcha, the commission said.

Those expelled from Iran entered Afghanistan through the Islam Qala crossing in Herat province and the Silk Road crossing in Nimroz, according to the statement.

The latest figures come as both Iran and Pakistan have stepped up mass deportations of undocumented Afghans in recent months. Millions of Afghan migrants have been forced to return over the past year as the two countries tighten migration policies.

Aid agencies have warned that large-scale returns are placing severe pressure on Afghanistan’s fragile economy and overstretched humanitarian system, particularly as winter approaches and job opportunities remain scarce.
