Paktia’s Mangal district residents say lack of basic services worsening daily hardship

Residents of Mangal district in Afghanistan’s southeastern Paktia province say the absence of basic services — including clinics, hospitals, paved roads and job opportunities — is making daily life increasingly difficult.

Locals told Amu that the district has no functioning hospital and only limited primary healthcare, forcing families to travel long distances to Gardez City when medical help is needed.

“We need paved roads, small bridges and clinics. We need hospitals here,” said Qayum, a local resident.

Another resident, Mohammad, said the lack of medical facilities regularly puts lives at risk. “There is no hospital here to treat patients. People have to take them to Gardez,” he said.

Residents also cited rising unemployment among young people, saying many school and university graduates have no job prospects.

“There is no work and young people are unemployed. Opportunities must be created for them,” an elderly resident, Mangal, said.

“People are struggling without jobs. Most young men here have no work. We call on the authorities to pay serious attention,” he added.

Residents said their situation is worsening and urged the Taliban authorities to improve healthcare, build essential infrastructure and create employment opportunities in Mangal district.
