Pakistani police arrested Afghan journalist Noorullah Akbari early Monday from the Faisal Town area of Islamabad, according to multiple sources familiar with the detention.
The sources said Akbari was subsequently transferred to the temporary holding facility known as “Haji Camp,” as part of Pakistan’s intensified campaign against undocumented migrants — which has seen journalists among those targeted.
The arrest comes at a time of escalating tensions between Islamabad and Kabul, and during a crackdown that has included the detainment of other Afghan journalists such as Jafar Niazi and the suspension of visa renewals for thousands of Afghans.
Media support groups in exile have urged the Pakistani government to halt the expulsion of Afghan media workers and ensure their protection in accordance with international human‑rights standards.
