Taliban spokesman denies giving reason for internet outage

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid on Thursday denied reports that he had explained the cause of Afghanistan’s 48-hour internet shutdown, saying he had not commented on the matter.

The Associated Press earlier reported that Mujahid had attributed the outage to worn-out fiber optic cables, citing a statement shared with journalists.

The blackout, which also affected phone networks, disrupted daily life across the country, halting banking services, grounding flights and cutting communication between families.
