Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq Khan, will travel to Iran in the coming days for talks on security and militant groups in Afghanistan, sources told Amu.
The visit comes at the invitation of Iranian officials. Khan is expected to meet senior figures of the Islamic Republic and discuss regional security concerns, including the presence of militant groups in Afghanistan, the sources said.
Earlier, Khan met with Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev in Islamabad to discuss regional security developments and the presence of international and regional militant groups in Afghanistan.
In a post Friday on X, Khan said threats from militant activity in Afghanistan were the main focus of his discussion with Khorev. He added that both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation to counter the challenges.
Khan also said preparations are underway for a planned quadrilateral meeting of special envoys from Pakistan, Russia, China and Iran on Afghanistan. In addition, the seventh round of the “Moscow Format” consultations on Afghanistan is scheduled for early October in the Russian capital.
