Sources: Ex-intelligence officer detained, killed in Badakhshan

Local sources say the Taliban detained a former Afghan intelligence officer in Badakhshan and later returned his body to his family.

The victim, Abdul Rashid, son of Abdul Sattar, was a resident of Ghumi Shakhdara village in Nasi Darwaz district.

He had worked for the former government’s National Directorate of Security before fleeing to Iran after the Taliban takeover. He was deported back to Afghanistan several months ago, the sources said.

After his return, Rashid left his family in Kunduz and moved to his native Badakhshan. Despite repeated attempts, he was unable to obtain an amnesty card from the Taliban district governor in Nasi, according to the sources.

He later found work as a laborer at a local gold mine. On Monday night, Taliban fighters allegedly detained, tortured and killed him, the sources said.

Taliban have not commented on the case.
