Sources: Afghan journalist detained in Pakistan over visa issues

Pakistani police detained Afghan journalist Jawad Etimad in Islamabad on Tuesday over visa and residency issues, local sources told Amu.

Etimad was taken into custody around 10 a.m. in the city’s Faisal Town area, according to his relatives. They said his arrest was linked to the expiration of his visa.

Sources confirmed that Etimad remains in detention and that Pakistani authorities plan to deport him to Afghanistan.

Afghans living in Pakistan have said authorities there have for months refused to extend their visas, leaving many at risk of arrest and deportation.
