‘Peace and Freedom Movement’ launched by Afghan activists in US

A group of Afghan political figures and civil society activists in the United States has launched a new movement called the Peace and Freedom Movement, aimed at unifying opposition forces against the Taliban.

Samim Yawar, the founder of the movement, announced its formation during a ceremony, saying its core mission is to organize opposition voices—particularly among youth—while advocating for social justice and amplifying dissent.

Yawar said the group is committed to nonviolent resistance against what it calls the systemic injustice in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

The movement’s central office is based in the United States, with additional branches established in Germany and Iran, members said.

Leaders of the movement emphasized that its goals include raising international awareness about the situation in Afghanistan, documenting human rights violations by the Taliban, and mobilizing young people in support of justice-oriented activism.
