At least nine people were injured in an overnight earthquake that struck eastern provinces, including Laghman, local sources said Friday.
Some of the injuries occurred when residents jumped from rooftops or upper floors in panic as the tremor hit, according to witnesses.
Seven of the injured were admitted to the provincial hospital in Mehtarlam, the provincial capital, said Abdul Malik Niazi, a spokesman for the Taliban-appointed governor of Laghman.
The quake comes as aftershocks continue to rattle eastern Afghanistan following the powerful earthquake that struck Sunday night. That quake killed more than 2,000 people in Kunar province alone, according to Taliban officials.
On Friday morning, parts of eastern Afghanistan experienced two additional aftershocks, further shaking already traumatized communities.
