Afghans in Germany protest acceptance of Taliban envoys

A group of Afghans living in Germany gathered outside Afghanistan’s embassy in Berlin to denounce Germany’s decision to accept two Taliban diplomats, voicing strong opposition to the move.

Chanting slogans such as “The Taliban do not represent us” and “Women’s rights are our red line,” protesters urged the German government to refrain from political engagement with the Taliban and to reject the group’s claim to be the legitimate representatives of Afghanistan.

“The Taliban seized power by force but hold no political or international legitimacy,” the protesters said in a statement.

They said the Taliban have systematically suppressed women and girls, silenced journalists and have persecuted minorities. They warned that normalization with the Taliban would “send a dangerous message” to human rights violators worldwide.

Several participants described Germany’s decision as a betrayal of Afghanistan’s victims. Some protesters announced plans to file legal complaints against the two Taliban representatives who recently attended a meeting in Germany, insisting that they were not diplomats but members of a “terrorist group” who should be held accountable in international courts.

The rally, which organizers emphasized was peaceful, ended with calls to continue advocacy in Europe for justice, human rights and what they described as the “true voice of the Afghan people.”

This comes as Germany recently agreed to accept two Taliban diplomats in Berlin and Bonn. The move has sparked widespread reactions.
