Zolala Hashemi, a well-known artist, has been missing for more than two weeks after being abducted in the capital, Kabul, according to local sources and her family.
Hashemi was taken by unidentified individuals about 16 days back, her husband said, and no information has emerged since about her condition or whereabouts. “All efforts to find her have so far led nowhere,” he added.
A video of the couple’s four-year-old daughter pleading for her mother’s return has circulated widely on social media, prompting public concern and renewed calls for action.
Taliban security agencies have yet to locate Hashemi, despite reportedly opening an investigation, sources said. Local sources added there is still no confirmation as to whether she is alive.
The case comes amid a spike in security and safety incidents in the country based on a new UN report that covers February to April incidents.
