As tensions between Iran and Israel escalate, the Indian government said Tuesday that it had evacuated a number of Indian students from Tehran and facilitated their exit from the country via neighboring Armenia.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said the move was a precautionary step to ensure the safety of its nationals amid the growing volatility in the region.
“Indian students in Tehran have been moved out of the city for reasons of safety, through arrangements made by the Embassy,” said Randhir Jaiswal, the ministry’s spokesperson.
Mr. Jaiswal added that some citizens had already been transported across the Iranian border into Armenia, and that Indian residents in Tehran who were able to arrange their own travel had also been advised to leave the capital.
“The Indian embassy in Iran remains continuously in touch with the community with a view to extending all feasible assistance,” he said.
Iran has long been a destination for Indian students, particularly those pursuing degrees in medicine. Officials in New Delhi have established multiple channels for citizens seeking support or guidance as the situation unfolds.
India has not commented on whether additional evacuations are planned, but officials said they are closely monitoring developments.
