Five killed in family dispute in southeastern Afghanistan

Five members of two related families, including women, were killed and one person wounded in an apparent domestic dispute in Khost Province, local sources said Wednesday.

The violence unfolded Tuesday evening in the Tani district, according to residents familiar with the incident. Four of the victims were reportedly from a single household — a father, mother, daughter and son. The family’s daughter-in-law was also injured.

The motive behind the altercation remains unclear. However, several local residents suggested that rising unemployment and deepening economic hardship have exacerbated mental stress and contributed to a spike in family conflicts across the region.

Taliban officials in Khost have not publicly commented on the incident.
