KABUL, Afghanistan — Taliban forces in Baghlan Province “detained and tortured” three civilians earlier this week for “wandering at night,” according to local sources.
The individuals — identified as Mukhtar Ahmad, Mehrabuddin, and Ashiqullah — were stopped by Taliban members on Wednesday in Guzargah Noor district while traveling to a relative’s home, sources told Amu TV.
The men were reportedly taken to a Taliban checkpoint, where they were subjected to severe beatings.
The Taliban reportedly claimed the three were detained for being out after dark, a justification that sources said has increasingly been used to target civilians.
The Taliban commander linked to the incident is known by the alias “Hashimi,” though his full identity remains unclear, sources said.
Taliban have not yet issued any public statement regarding the incident.
