KABUL, Afghanistan — Kazakhstan’s deputy prime minister, Serik Zhumangarin, arrived in Kabul on Monday, leading a high-level government and business delegation to participate in the Kazakhstan-Afghanistan trade forum, aimed at expanding economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
Upon arrival, Zhumangarin and his delegation were received with an official welcome by the Taliban’s acting minister of industry and commerce, along with other senior Taliban officials.
According to a statement from the Taliban-run Ministry of Commerce, Zhumangarin is expected to meet senior Taliban officials during his visit.
The Kazakhstan-Afghanistan trade forum is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, April 22, bringing together Kazakh and Taliban officials and private sector representatives from both countries. Discussions will focus on opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, and transit sectors.
Kazakhstan has been among the Central Asian countries engaging cautiously with the Taliban since their return to power in August 2021, primarily through trade and humanitarian channels.
