Magnitude 5.3 earthquake kills six people in Kunar

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake killed at least six people and wounded nine others at around 2:30am on Monday, local sources said.

According to USGS, the earthquake jolted parts of Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Pakistan.

But head of the Taliban’s information and culture department in Kunar, Najibullah Hanif, told Amu that at least eight people have been killed and wounded in the earthquake.

All victims are from Noorgul district where houses have been destroyed in the earthquake.

The earthquake was also felt in Kabul and south-eastern provinces.

Afghanistan has been hardly affected by natural disasters this year. An earthquake in Paktika province in the east of Afghanistan in July killed at least 1,100 people. Moreover, floods have also taken toll on the people and have destroyed thousands of houses across the country.
