A collision between two high-speed vehicles on the Herat-Islam Qala highway left five people dead and several others, including a young girl, injured, local sources told Amu.
The accident occurred on Thursday morning. Among the victims was Basir Ahmad Noori, the head of the Herat Food Traders’ Union.
The injured were transported to a hospital in Herat for treatment.
A Herat resident attributed such accidents to drivers failing to follow traffic regulations and a lack of government oversight on the highway.
The Herat-Islam Qala highway is one of Afghanistan’s busiest routes, facilitating frequent travel between Herat and Iran.
