Pakistan releases 63 Afghan migrants from detention

KABUL — Pakistani authorities have released 63 Afghan migrants from detention and deported them back to Afghanistan, the Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said on Thursday.

In a statement, the ministry said the migrants had been detained for lacking legal residency documents. They reportedly spent between two to six days in Pakistani custody before being released.

The deportees returned to Afghanistan on Wednesday through the Spin Boldak and Torkham border crossings, the statement added.

According to figures compiled by Amu TV, at least 383 Afghan migrants have been released from Pakistani detention and deported back to Afghanistan since the start of this month.

Meanwhile, Afghan migrants in Pakistan and Iran have reported mistreatment by local authorities, alleging harassment and abuse by security forces.

Pakistan has continued its mass deportation campaign against undocumented Afghan migrants for over a year, while Iran has intensified its crackdown in recent months.
