Taliban arrest six suspected of ties to ISIS

SAR-E PUL, Afghanistan — Taliban have arrested six individuals in Sar-e PUl Province on charges of affiliation with ISIS, local sources reported.

The arrests were made during a Taliban operation on Tuesday, according to the sources. Taliban officials have alleged that the detainees were involved in the recent attack in Sar-e Pul, as well as an earlier attack targeting Shia citizens during Muharram ceremonies.

In July, an attack during the Muharram ceremonies in Sar-e Pul injured eight people. Local sources at the time told Amu that the attack occurred in the Khocha-e Chobfroshi area, where a motorcyclist threw a hand grenade at a group of mourners.

The mourners had gathered in a tent and were preparing to head to the shrine of Imamzadeh Yahya when the attack took place, sources said.
