Chinese envoy in Kabul calls for stronger ties, joint fight against terrorism

Zhao Xing, China’s ambassador to Afghanistan, emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral relations and tackle terrorism during a ceremony in Kabul on Monday commemorating 70 years of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Speaking at the event, Zhao outlined four key proposals for enhancing collaboration with Afghanistan.

“In today’s complex international environment, China and Afghanistan must respect each other’s core interests, build mutual trust, and expand cooperation in all areas,” he said. “We must work toward a shared future.”

He expressed China’s readiness to partner with Afghanistan on the Global Development Initiative, saying, “China is prepared to work with Afghanistan to deepen economic ties and create opportunities for mutual growth.”

Zhao also highlighted the importance of cultural and educational exchanges through the Global Civilization Initiative, adding, “We are ready to enhance cultural, educational, and health cooperation to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between our two peoples.”

Addressing security concerns, Zhao stressed the Global Security Initiative, stating, “China is committed to working with Afghanistan to combat terrorism decisively, ensuring collective security and fostering a peaceful and stable regional environment.”

Abbas Stanekzai, the Taliban’s deputy foreign minister, reaffirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to maintaining peaceful ties with China. “Afghan soil will never be a threat to China,” he said, adding, “Our policy is not to interfere in the affairs of other countries, and we ask others to respect our internal matters as well.”

The ceremony underscored the importance of bilateral cooperation in achieving regional stability and economic progress. Both sides reiterated their commitment to stronger ties, with Zhao concluding, “Together, we can create a secure, harmonious, and prosperous future for our region.”
