Afghan migrant killed in dispute at Tehran sports club

TEHRAN — A physical altercation among Afghan migrants in Tehran resulted in one death and several arrests, Iranian media reported on Saturday.

Murad Sarmi, the police commander of Pardis, a district in the capital, said the incident occurred at a futsal club in the city. According to Sarmi, the individual responsible for the fatal attack was severely injured during the altercation and was transported to a hospital by ambulance.

Two others involved in the dispute were taken into custody, he added.

“The individuals involved in the conflict have been handed over to the judicial system,” Sarmi stated, without providing further details on the nature of the dispute or the identities of those involved.

Iran is home to a large population of Afghan migrants and refugees, many of whom fled instability and economic hardship in Afghanistan.
