Taliban report gas company fire in Kabul kills two, injures over 100

KABUL, Afghanistan — A fire at a gas company in Kabul’s Paghman District on Saturday, Nov. 2, killed two people and injured 107 others, according to a statement from the Taliban-controlled National Disaster Management Authority.

The agency reported that 81 of those injured sustained minor wounds.

Preliminary estimates indicate that the fire caused over $1.2 million in financial losses to local businesses, merchants, and the gas company involved.

The fire, which occurred in the Qala-e Haider Khan area in western Kabul, was powerful enough to hurl fragments of gas tanks up to two kilometers from the site, the Taliban statement said, causing further damage to nearby residents and property.
