Afghanistan to face Bangladesh in ODI series in November

KABUL, Afghanistan — The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced the national squad for a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, set to take place from November 6 to 11 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.

Afghanistan’s top-order batsman Ibrahim Zadran will be absent as he recovers from recent ankle surgery in England. Also missing from the lineup is frontline spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who remains sidelined with a right phalanx sprain.

In their absence, left-handed top-order batter Sediqullah Atal, who has earned six T20I caps, has been called up following impressive domestic performances and a strong showing in the ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup.

Returning to the squad is spinner Noor Ahmad, who missed Afghanistan’s previous series against South Africa, which Afghanistan won 2-1 in Sharjah. The rest of the lineup remains unchanged from that successful series.

“The 2024 calendar has been action-packed and very successful for Afghan cricket, particularly in ODIs,” said ACB CEO Naseeb Khan. “ODI cricket remains a priority for us as we build towards the ICC Champions Trophy. Playing against Bangladesh has always been challenging, and we believe this squad is poised to bring more glory to our nation.”

Chief Selector Ahmad Shah Sulimankhil added, “With Ibrahim and Mujeeb still recovering, we’ve called up Noor Ahmad and selected Sediqullah Atal, who has shown excellent form in the domestic circuit.”

The Afghanistan squad for the ODI series against Bangladesh includes: Hashmatullah Shahidi (Captain), Rahmat Shah (Vice Captain), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Ikram Alikhil (WK), Abdul Malik, Riaz Hassan, Sediqullah Atal, Darwish Rasooli, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Nangyal Kharoti, AM Ghazanfar, Noor Ahmad, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Bilal Sami, Naveed Zadran, and Farid Ahmad Malik.
