Traffic accident on Jawzjan-Balkh highway leaves one dead, 11 injured

A traffic accident on the Jawzjan-Balkh highway has left one person dead and 11 others injured, local sources reported.

The crash occurred Friday afternoon in Jawzjan province, where a Toyota Corolla collided with a rickshaw in the Khanaqa district, according to Abdul Satar Halimi, a spokesman for the Taliban’s security department in the region.

The incident is part of a worrying trend of rising traffic accidents across Afghanistan. In the past two months alone, over 130 people have died and more than 200 have been injured in various road accidents, according to data collected by Amu.

Taliban traffic officials have attributed the increase in accidents primarily to driver negligence. However, local residents point to poor road conditions as a significant contributing factor, exacerbating the risks of collisions on the country’s highways.
