Iran has executed two Afghan nationals in the past two weeks, according to a report by the Iran Human Rights Organization. The report states that the executions were carried out on charges of drug trafficking and premeditated murder.
The two Afghans were among 19 people executed in Iran during this period.
The executions took place on Monday, September 16; Wednesday, September 18; Monday, September 23; and Wednesday, September 25, in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz, according to the organization.
The report also highlights a concerning trend: the execution of Afghan nationals in Iran has increased since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021.
The organization previously reported that, in August 2023 alone, Iran executed 100 individuals, including 11 Afghan citizens.
Taliban has not yet commented on the recent executions of Afghan nationals in Iran. However, analysts suggest that the Taliban’s diplomatic representatives in Iran have shown little response to these incidents.
