Killings of Hazaras in Ghor bear hallmarks of international crimes: Bennett

Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan, condemned Thursday’s attack in Ghor, stating that the “appalling ISKP-claimed killings of Hazara from Daikundi traveling in Ghor bears the hallmarks of international crimes.”

In a statement posted on X, Bennett reacted to the attack, which was claimed by the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), expressing alarm over the increasing frequency of such incidents.

The U.N. envoy stressed the need for international accountability and action to prevent further violence.

“I’m alarmed about the spate of ISKP-claimed attacks. There is an urgent need for prevention, protection, and international accountability in Afghanistan,” he said.

Sources say the attack in Ghor targeted Hazara civilians from the neighboring province of Daikundi, leaving 14 dead and four others wounded.

The victims had been traveling to welcome pilgrims returning to the area.
