Taliban publicly flogs four in Bamiyan, Maidan Wardak provinces

In a continuation of public corporal punishment, Taliban flogged four individuals in Bamiyan and Maidan Wardak provinces on Saturday on charges of “running away from home” and “sodomy.”

According to a statement from the Taliban-run Supreme Court, two individuals in Bamiyan were flogged on charges of fleeing home. Each received 39 lashes.

The court provided no further details about their identities but stated that both were also sentenced to one year in prison.

In Maidan Wardak, the Taliban publicly flogged two others, accusing them of engaging in same-sex relations. They, too, were sentenced to 39 lashes and two years in prison.

These incidents follow a broader pattern of public punishment under Taliban rule. In the past two weeks alone, the group has flogged at least 28 individuals across various provinces.

Despite widespread condemnation from international human rights organizations, including the United Nations, the Taliban has continued to carry out public floggings. Data compiled by Amu TV indicates that in the nearly three years since the Taliban’s return to power, the group has stoned 37 people and flogged over 610 individuals in public, including 107 women.
